The homesickness was the worst last Friday; I'm feeling much better now, and the grobbeldy sounds have coalesced into words and phrases I can understand. And my own mouth occasionally produces things to which the locals nod their heads in response.

I have a German roommate (until I find an apartment), a strong grasp on the names of the English teachers here, and a passion for croissants beurres au chocolat. And, lucky me, a couple of friends.

That's my school. More photos eventually, like later this week? Oh, and tomorrow is my birthday, the first one I will have ever spent away from home. It's strange.

Bon anniversaire! as I think the French say. I have several years of French rattling around in my brain but my memory is crap so it's hard to know if what I remember is anywhere near being correct. At any rate, happy birthday! May tomorrow and the year to come be full of wonderful things. I'm looking forward to hearing and seeing more about your French adventure.

Glad to hear all is well. I am living vicariously through these pictures!
It makes me think of the town in the Chocolat movie for some reason.

Happy early birthday! Let me know via e-mail when you have a postal address there. : - )

Happy Birthday. A candle in a pain au chocolat...couldn't be a better b-day breakfast! Unless, maybe, it came with a cafe au lait? I hope it's great.
Take care.

Happy Birthday Dear! I am slowly catching up with friends and reading your posts, I can't believe you're actually there. Wow! Enjoy every minute. I can remember feeling intense homesickness at times in my life. We learn so much about ourselves through times like this, don't you think? xoxo
